In a blockbuster new study titled “Myth Busting the Cost of One-Way Tickets.” by the Airlines Reporting Corporation (ARC) found that travelers have made a major shift toward buying one way tickets instead of round trip tickets. This is in response to a major change in airline pricing that previously charged a premium of as much as 50% more if you didn’t stay over a Saturday night and buy a round trip ticket. The report summary said ” the long- held belief that it is better to purchase roundtrip tickets whenever possible to get the best fares is simply no longer true”. Even though staying over Saturday night no longer saves you much money, purchasing your airline tickets at least 14 days in advance can save an average of $300 round-trip. It turns out that in many cases because travel plans often change for business travelers, purchasing airline tickets with more than a 14 day advance actually may cost hundreds more after factoring in the cost of airline $200 change fees.
