Starting March 1, 2017 Delta will be offering complimentary meals to coach class flyers on 10 long-haul domestic flights between New York’s JFK and LAX/San Francisco. Later in April they will add complimentary meals to flights from Seattle, New York, Boston and Washington D.C. I hope the food is as good as they are promising otherwise we will all be thinking of the old joke; “First the good news, you get a free meal on your flight. Now the bad news, you get a free meal on your flight.”
Will Sheraton Hotels start to shrink as new owner Marriott tells them to shape-up or ship-out –
Last year Marriott purchased Starwood Hotels (Westin, St. Regis, Sheraton, W Hotels, etc). This year it appears that Marriott is putting the squeeze on Sheraton Hotels by telling them to shape-up or ship-out. There are over 500 Sheratons worldwide and many of the Sheratons I have stayed at recently seem a bit dated. My guess is that over the coming year that if the owners of some of the older Sheratons don’t make major investments in their hotel properties they will be wearing a different brand in 2018.

There are some “tourist traps” that are still worth visiting –
Many times when I talk to people traveling I will advise them that some of the best trips I have ever taken are off the beaten track. However, I must tell you there are many “tourist traps” that are a must see even though if you are like me you want to avoid the crowds and see how the locals live. For example, how could you go to Beijing and not visit the Great Wall, or travel to Paris and not visit the Eiffel Tower? Nothing is more kitschy that a luau in Hawaii, but if you have never seen one it would be like you missed out on something. Sure the Leaning Tower of Pisa is a major tourist trap but if you are traveling anywhere around Florence it is surely worth a 1 hour visit. CLICK HERE to find a great article in Budget Travel Magazine that lists 25 tourist traps around the world that you need to visit. I have visited 21 of the 25 places. Let me know if anyone has been to all 25.
