#1 – Hurricane season offers the best prices of the year –
The Atlantic hurricane season runs from June 1 to November 30 and offers some of the best prices of the year for people looking for great value for their sun and fun vacations. Don’t be scared to take advantage of these super prices. Hurricanes can most of the time be mitigated with good planning and flexible scheduling that I will share with you below.
#2 – Airlines are very flexible if hurricanes show up on the radar –
All the major airlines offer blanket waivers to people traveling to those areas affected by hurricanes. They allow you to change your ticket and some even allow full refunds if you don’t want to travel. Even for people who are unfortunate to plan their vacation on the exact day a hurricane is to hit the airlines know way in advance and offer great options.
#3 – Hotels in the Caribbean want you to be safe and sound –
Almost all resorts will waive cancellation fees and allow you to rebook your trip for a later date if a hurricane threatens the island. Some will give you a refund but most of them want to have you rebook for a later date. Sandals and Beaches resorts have a “hurricane guarantee” that gives you all kinds of options to remove the worry of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. The bottom line is that the resorts in the Caribbean know that if they make it a hardship to change your trip to avoid a hurricane the word gets out and people will avoid the Caribbean during hurricane season altogether.
#4 – Cruise ships simply go around the storm –
A cruise ship is one of the easiest ways to avoid the wrath of hurricane season as when a bad storm is on the horizon they simply change their itineraries to hit the islands not affected by the storm. The only hiccup for cruise lines is when airlines cancel flights to the cruise hubs for arrival and departure.
#5 – Travel to the southern Caribbean to avoid the hurricanes –
Most hurricanes tend to leave most of the islands in the southern Caribbean (like Aruba) alone. Aruba is only 17 miles north of Venezuela so it misses most of the hurricane season each year. The ABC islands (Aruba, Bonaire, and Curacao) are the three western-most islands of the Leeward Antilles and are rarely hit by hurricanes. If you want fun and sun without the worry of hurricanes these three islands are the least risky.
#6 – Always buy travel insurance to protect your investment –
If you are going to spend thousands of dollars for your “vacation of a lifetime” it is worth an extra few hundred bucks to protect your investment. Why go through all the stress of worrying about the possibility of a hurricane ruining your vacation when a “cancel for any reason” travel insurance policy can save the day.
#7 – When you can’t get through to the airlines you can get through to us –
When bad weather hits the airlines simply don’t have enough people to answer all the calls they get. That is why people love to have a professional travel advisor to call and help them out of trouble. You can wait for hours on hold with an airline. Plus when you finally get through to them they only advise you of the options on their airline. A travel advisor will look at all airlines, schedules, times and prices to find the best possible options for you. Did you know that for hurricane Irma we reviewed all the itineraries of people affected by the storm and contacted them to assist them before the mess began? Proactive and safe is our motto during storm season.
#8 – Using a professional travel advisor is your best way for a picture-perfect vacation –
I don’t understand why everyone does not engage a professional travel advisor to help them with all the details of their vacation travels. For a small fee, you are able to take advantage of years of experience in knowing the ins and outs of travel around the world. Also, travel advisors are often able to offer great prices by leveraging buying co-ops as well as special amenities like upgrades, spa credits and special services that can turn your trip into a dream vacation.
