Just as I promised, the travel industry is launching some fantastic travel vacation deals this fall. Historically the 90 day period after Labor Day is a slow season for travel and the airlines, hotels and cruise lines offer great deals to try to fill up empty seats and rooms. Some of the lowest prices of the year can be found if you can travel in the coming months. Call one of our friendly travel advisors (402-435-8888) and let them find you the perfect vacation getaway.
Now is the time to use your frequent flyer miles –
If you have a bunch of airline frequent flyer miles now is a good time to try to redeem them. I recently checked on flights from Omaha to London in October and found frequent flyer coach seats for as low as 60,000 miles round-trip on both Delta and United. Even business class seats could be found for as little as 120,000 miles. If you have miles, use them now.

TSA has done an great job of keeping security lines short this month –
Remember the nightmare of the ½ mile long TSA security line at Chicago Midway Airport a short two months ago? After seeing that and all the excuses of budget cuts and manpower shortages I was worried that air travel this summer was going to be a nightmare. The last two weeks I have been traveling I have noticed that the airport security lines seem to be running very smoothly. I am glad to see that this issue is getting fixed fast. Ironically, Americans will put up with a 17 trillion dollar budget deficit but they won’t put up with waiting an hour in an airport security line.
American Airlines allows same day changes for free for elite members-$75 for everyone else –
If you are a AAdvantage member with elite status (Executive Platinum, Platinum or Gold members) one of the best benefits is being able to change your flight on the same day as your original flight for free. This is a fantastic benefit that can give you a lot of flexibility, plus the flight you change to is confirmed space so you are not worrying about being waitlisted. All AA customers can pay a $75 fee and standby for same-day travel as long as the alternate flight has the same origin and destination, is the same calendar day of departure, and has eligible seats available. United Airlines has a similar policy and fees for same-day changes. Delta charges only $50 for same-day change fees for silver and general Skymiles members, Delta’s Diamond, Platinum and Gold Medallion members have the fee waived, however no changes can be made to any of Delta’s basic economy fares.
Airlines spending like drunken sailors on their new labor contracts –
Wow, The airlines are rolling in the dough with profits from low fuel prices and massive baggage fees generating billions. They are buying thousands of new airplanes and fancy new business class seats. This past month I was amazed to learn what they are doing with some of the new wage contracts. United recently offered their flight attendants raises of as much as 31 percent, with maximum pay for veterans with at least 13 years of experience set at $62 an hour. Delta’s pilots are asking for a whopping 40% pay raise on top of their 5% annual profit sharing check. Will all these pay raises be the beginning of the long profit death spiral the airlines fall into every decade as expenses rise and profits disappear?
