All Non-Essential Travel to Mexico Should Be Suspended – This weekend, Mexican security forces killed Nemesio “El Mencho” Oseguera, leader of the powerful Jalisco New Generation Cartel. His organization controlled vast regions of Mexico and operated with heavily armed forces. When a cartel leader of this magnitude is eliminated, retaliation, internal power struggles, and increased violence typically follow as rival factions compete for control. Within hours, cartel gunmen burned vehicles, blocked highways, and disrupted transportation in Guadalajara, Puerto Vallarta, and other areas. These tactics are designed to destabilize infrastructure and demonstrate strength. Such disruptions can affect highways, airports, and access to resort areas. The situation remains fluid, and further instability should be expected in the coming weeks.

Executive Travel recommends that travelers with upcoming vacations to Mexico should strongly consider postponing or redirecting their plans – Even well-secured resort destinations can be impacted by sudden transportation disruptions and regional unrest. Safety conditions can shift quickly with little warning. Executive Travel recommends clients with Mexico travel planned in the next 60–90 days evaluate alternative destinations. Our advisors are actively assisting clients in securing comparable warm-weather vacations that provide exceptional experiences with greater stability and peace of mind.

Five Recommended Alternative Destinations – Here is a list of alternate warm weather destinations if your Mexico trip can be changed:

Aruba – One of the safest Caribbean destinations with excellent infrastructure, beautiful beaches, and reliable air service. Located outside the hurricane belt.

Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands Exceptional safety, crystal-clear water, world-class dining, and luxury resorts. Ideal for travelers seeking a calm, upscale experience.

Turks and Caicos Home to Grace Bay, one of the most beautiful beaches in the world, offering luxury resorts and tranquility.

Hawaii (Maui, Kauai, or Big Island) A domestic tropical alternative with world-class resorts, diverse landscapes, and no passport required.

Costa Rica (Guanacaste Region) A stable, well-developed destination known for luxury resorts, eco-experiences, and strong tourism infrastructure.

TSA PreCheck and Global Entry Update – Programs Remain Active – There has been recent confusion regarding TSA PreCheck and Global Entry due to the partial government shutdown. DHS initially announced a suspension but has since reversed that decision. Both programs remain operational, and travelers can continue using expedited security lanes and trusted traveler benefits. However, travelers should remain aware that staffing constraints could cause occasional slowdowns.

REAL ID Deadline Approaching: Travelers Without Compliant ID May Be Denied Boarding or charge extra for processing – Beginning May 7, 2026, U.S. travelers must present a REAL ID-compliant driver’s license or an acceptable alternative such as a passport to board domestic flights. Travelers without compliant identification risk being denied access through TSA security or be charged a fee to process at the airport.  Now is the time to verify your ID status and schedule a DMV appointment if needed. Waiting until the deadline approaches could result in delays and disrupted travel plans.
