Here are the 9 things that happened on a recent trip that made it a perfect 10!

I think I just enjoyed the perfect flight! – I recently returned from a trip to Europe. My return flight from Rome in October was eventful in many ways. I changed my return day and because the direct flight from Rome to Chicago was sold out I grabbed the Rome to Washington IAD flight which then connects to Chicago and then back to Omaha. As luck would have it my IAD to ORD flight was delayed by two hours so I missed my flight to Omaha and had to overnight in Chicago. This part was not perfect.

Now here is where the magic begins.  Here is a list of all the things that made the rest of the trip so enjoyable.

Perfect step 1 – I called the United desk to ask for options for flights the next morning as my flight would miss connections in ORD. The agent on the 1K desk booked me in first class for the morning flight.
Perfect step 2 –  The same agent said that because the flight was delayed because of mechanical issues that he would text me a link to choose a hotel and provide for food vouchers.
Perfect step 3 –  I selected a Wyndham Chicago O’Hare 3 star hotel and figured it might be a dump but was pleasantly surprised when I arrived to find a very nice and clean hotel that was probably remodeled in the last few years. Friendly staff, good bed. Clean.
Perfect step 4 –  UA also provided me (2) $20 food vouchers that I could use and when I checked in they let me use them in their pantry so I loaded up on shaving cream, NyQuil and other travel items. I topped it off with a Fat Boy ice cream bar to make my night.
Perfect step 5 –  My flight to Omaha departed at 8:55 a.m. so it allowed me to sleep until 6:30 a.m. and then jump in a courtesy van to terminal 2 for my flight
Perfect step 6 –  After being dropped off at the terminal I noticed a long line at the TSA PreCheck line so I remembered I had a CLEAR pass that allowed me to get in front of everyone and clear security in 2 minutes.
Perfect step 7 –  My flight departed from gate E7 so I went to the United Club in Terminal 2 and enjoyed tea and a muffin for the hour wait to board.
Perfect step 8 –  At boarding, I walked to the gate and walked immediately onto the flight.
Perfect step 9 –  Now comes the magic of Tannis Ashworth. I found the most amazing flight attendant on the flight home, Tannis Ashworth was the flight attendant on my United Airlines flight from Chicago to Omaha on October 15. Here are just a few of the things she did to make the flight so enjoyable:As I was getting on the plane she was singing and many of the passengers (including me) were singing along.

  • She greeted everyone with a smile.
  • Instead of asking if I would like some coffee she asked, “Mr. Glenn, Would you like some coffee or tea?”
  • When she brought my tea she asked if I was right or left-handed so she could turn the cup handle the right direction.
  • As I was starting to catch a cold and was coughing she brought me three cough drops. Sugar free!
  • Plus she had a sense of humor as I told her that when she brought the caviar,  that I only eat “Beluga brand”. She laughed and said, “And how would you like your steak Mr. Glenn? Medium?”

I wish there were more Tannis Ashworths in the world.
