Air travel is consistently exceeding pre-pandemic levels, as record numbers of people using U.S. airports during Memorial Day weekend signaled a busy summer travel season ahead. The Transportation Security Administration said it screened more than 2.9 million travelers at airports across the country on May 24, breaking the previous record set in November during the Thanksgiving holiday rush. “TSA Officers have set a new record for most travelers screened in a single day!” the agency said. Read More…

U.S. carriers operated more than 623,400 flights in March 2024, a nearly 2.5 percent increase year over year and a 13.5 percent increase month over month, according to the U.S. Department of Transportation’s latest Air Travel Consumer Report. The March cancellation rate, however, inched up to 0.9 percent after dipping a bit in February to 0.6 percent. The carriers with the lowest rates of canceled flights included Delta Air Lines network (0.2 percent), Hawaiian Airlines (0.6 percent) and Allegiant Air (0.6 percent). Read More…

Decision-makers at airports across 10 countries are planning to make significant investments in technology over the next year, including stepping up the use of biometrics. A newly released report from Amadeus titled Travel Technology Investment Trends shows that 94 percent of airport IT decision-makers are planning at least moderate investment in technology over the next 12 months, while 44 percent are planning aggressive investment. Read More…

Southwest Airlines is celebrating its five years of service to Hawaii by partnering with the Waikiki Improvement Association for a Sunset on the Beach movie screening series. The free screenings, which also include live music, games, and food, are set to premiere on June 22, 2024, at Queen’s Beach in Waikiki. Currently, the monthly schedule for the screenings is Superhero Spotlight Night featuring “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem” on June 22, Sunset Sing Along Night featuring “Trolls: Band Together.” Read More…
