Hello from Italy! –
This week I am traveling to Orlando, Florida to attend a business meeting and then flying the Friendly Skies to Rome, Italy, and then driving to Montone, Umbria, Italy to visit the amazing www.VillaDestinoItaly.com to work on installing a swimming pool heater and cover for the fall season. It will be a whirlwind trip. Boy has the change in temperature in Europe made travel much more pleasant (more on that below). If I told you the high temperatures were in the 70’s and lows in the 50’s would you start packing your bags and head to Europe right now?
Here are the best four months of the year to travel around the world in my humble opinion –April, May, September and October are the best four months of the year to travel to most destinations around the world. Why you might ask? Here are three reasons. 1) Moderate temperatures. The 90 degrees in July and August give way to the almost perfect weather in the 70’s in Europe. 2) Lower prices. Airfares are half price. Hotels will see 25% to 50% discounts from summer prices as well. 3) My favorite. Smaller crowds. Families are back to school and work.
Here come the fall airfare sales to destinations around the world – My email inbox is filling up with emails from airlines announcing fall airfare sales around the world. I should not be surprised as this happens every year the week after Labor Day. Family attentions in August focus on back-to-school activities so travel has fallen from the top of their list in the summer to three or four steps below as school, the football season and cooler weather patterns fall (no pun intended) into place. Europe airfares are especially low until the end of the year. Domestic airfares seem high to me but that is probably because the business traveler is waking up from the summer vacation season and now is ready to conquer the world this fall.
Airfares to Europe are so low, you’ve got to get up and go! – I am checking to see how airfares to Europe are in late fall and early winter. They are amazing! Using Omaha, NE as a common departure point check out these RT coach class airfares with sample dates October 29 – Nov. 5, 2024: Rome $630; London $670; Paris $573; Athens $733; Madrid $533; Frankfurt $641; Copenhagen $548. It’s time to get up and GO!
United Flight Attendants vote to go on strike, I don’t think it will happen – 99% of the flight attendants at United Airlines have voted to authorize a strike at United Airlines. Before that can happen the Labor Relations Board must issue a 30-day cooling-off period. Looking at the calendar, in a worse-case situation that might mean a possible strike during the holidays. That would be a mess. If you have followed these labor negotiations like I have for the last 38 years you probably would not be worrying as the standard protocol is the union votes to strike, the cooling off period launches, and miracle upon miracles, hours before a potential strike happens, the two sides come to an agreement.
