Spring and summer airfares dropping like a rock –
The expected gangbuster travel this spring and summer is showing signs of weakness. Domestic airfares have moderated and the big four airlines of American, Delta, Southwest, and United have all announced they are trimming domestic schedules for this summer to deal with softening demand. The proposed tariff spat with Canada is causing Canadians to dramatically curtail trips to the U.S. Consumer confidence has also weekend in the last 30 days. Internationally, the airlines have been adding dozens upon dozens of new flights primarily across the pond starting this spring. 90 days ago we saw crazy high prices. Today those prices have come down to more reasonable levels. While the airlines still expect strong demand to Europe and other international destinations, I see some prices that have started edging downward. All this is actually great news for the consumer who wants to spread their wings in 2025.
International business class airfares are the best deals this spring – As was mentioned above, the Big three international airlines of American, Delta and United all have raced to add more flights and especially more business class seats to Europe in 2025. While the demand for travel to Europe remains strong, some experts think the airlines may have added a few too many seats all in one year. Prices from the U.S. to Europe this summer remain a great bargain as checking April, May, June and July you can find RT business class seats from Omaha to many major cities for $3500 to $4500. This is almost half price of what we were seeing a few months ago. This tells me sales are a little soft.
You will pay a premium for a non-stop or one-stop flight to Europe – One area that many of the airlines make hay when the sun shines is on their non-stop premium business class tickets from their hub airports. You can often see a $1000 to $2000 premium price charged for those tickets. Even one-stop tickets (for example Omaha – Chicago – Rome can find a business class ticket price that is double the price of a two-stop itinerary such as Omaha – Chicago = Frankfurt – Rome. Basically the airlines are betting that you will pay more for less hassle.
We are seeing business travel in the U.S. slowing down this year – It appears that corporations are anticipating a slowdown in the economy and some of our customers have put the foot on the brakes of corporate travel this spring. All the major airlines have gone public that things are softer than they had hoped. We have also recently seen some strong airfares sales for domestic travel which is a tell- tale sign that there are empty seats to fill. CLICK HERE to read more.
